Dick's Sporting Goods Opens Pop-up Discount Store at Tanger Outlets Deer Park

A Dick’s Sporting Goods pop-up store has set up shop in Deer Park’s Tanger Outlets as of March 12, 2021, occupying the former space of Neiman Marcus Last Call. What makes this Dick’s location different from its standard locations is its warehouse style of operation, in which the store offers a large portion of its inventory for 70% off or more. This is the second of its kind in New York State, and the first on Long Island. 

Prior to COVID-19 putting the world on pause a year ago, Dick’s sales were nothing extraordinary. On account of this, Dick’s adopted the warehouse-style store to get rid of an influx of unsold items and compete with online retailers. This was used as an alternative to selling their unsold items to other retail resellers.

Upon COVID-19 lockdowns, however, Dick’s saw an uptick in sales as more people turned to at- home exercise and physical activities to occupy themselves and stay active while stuck at home. According to an article by Newsday (original article) Dick’s had a record-breaking 23.2% increase in sales online and at brick-and-mortar stores they had opened over the past year in its third quarter, which ended Oct. 31.
